Since they are porta pros they get all the benefits that Yaxi pads do to the porta pros, they tame the bass a bit, increase the soundstage and increase the comfort. The grado pad upgrades are also interesting on the kph40, the G pads sound off to me compared to having them on the kph30i but the S pads fit decently and sound pretty good.
strip the outer jacket off of about 10-12" of the wire, clip the bare copper shielding at the base of the cut (wont be needing it), and make two twisted pairs out of the 4 wires. black/red, and blue/clear. heat shrink over where you cut the jacket, where the two twisted pairs split off.
